The End of Democracy

Is democracy dying?

Across the world, eerily similar trends are emerging: more autocratic government, shrinking space for free speech, and the rise of information-technology systems that can monitor and manage entire populations. For those of us raised to believe democracy meant the right to challenge a government’s policies, it’s dispiriting to watch.

I’ve got bad news—and good news.

From the vantage point of mundane astrology, the cycles I’m watching suggest representative democracy is indeed in decline. It may even be that the era of liberal democracy—at least in the familiar, 20th-century sense—is drawing to a close.

But crisis is also a doorway. The same cycles that show breakdown can also indicate breakthrough. The coming years may offer a chance to upgrade political systems so they better fit the Age of Air we’ve now entered.

In this episode of World Astrology Report, I walk through the planetary cycles and historical echoes that indicate democracy is in deep trouble—and the openings that could lead to more direct, more networked forms of governance.

Why this matters now

Before we examine the astrology, it’s worth surveying the landscape. Around the world, speech norms are tightening, digital-ID and surveillance regimes are advancing, and technocratic managerialism is becoming the default: politics framed as “technical problems” to be handled by experts. In parallel, markets and supranational institutions increasingly overrule national political will—a shift that further blurs the line between democracy and governance.

What the cycles suggest

In the video, I outline how several long cycles converge:

  • Jupiter–Saturn elemental shift (Age of Air): After nearly two centuries in Earth, the conjunctions moved decisively into Air with the 2020 Aquarius conjunction. Air accelerates information, decentralization, and fragmentation—and historically coincides with intensified efforts to control thought and speech.

  • Pluto in Aquarius: Power reorganizes around networks, technologies, and ideas. Expect new power centers at the edges and experiments in collective structures.

  • Neptune in Aries (incoming): A shift in collective mood and mythos toward crusading conviction—fuel for culture-war realignments.

  • Astro-Kondratiev Wave (Uranus–Pluto synced): Tech/economic waves crest and turn; “enshittification” of platforms signals a late phase where control tightens before the next true breakthrough in the 2040s.

This is predictive astrology in the classical sense: not fatalism, but pattern recognition—reading recurring signatures in the sky against the record of history.

If democracy is fading, what replaces it?

Here’s the hopeful part. Air dissolves heavy structures and privileges connection. That points toward experiments in direct democracy, network-enabled civic participation, and even new quasi-polities (think “network cities” or federations of aligned communities). The same tools that enable surveillance can be wielded for bottom-up governance—if we insist on it.
